In the dream

A triptych of Watercolour and ink on paper (594 x 420), portraying the global issue dubbed The American Dream.

Man is no longer the measure of all things – I am the measure of all things, and the more things I have, the more my measure is worth.

Behind the Obvious

It is self evident that we are a narcissistic species. This planet belongs to us. Well at least that’s the way we seem to act. The proof is all over social media.

It’s the 21st century – we’ve conquered Earth, empire after empire. Taking as much as we could, and never giving back.

Fact – Soon after an empire reaches its most opulent, it collapses, leaving behind only memories and tourist attractions.

Today’s Empire, America, has reached that tipping point. It’s in free fall – Wars, environmental mishaps and Donald Trump.

In the span of the 20th Century they sold us their most lethal weapon the American Dream - conquering the world through markets, media and mayhem.

From the eighties to the noughties nothing could stop it from spreading, the party was on – the world was up for grabs (by the most powerful). A capitalist-fueled renaissance of unheard of wealth and ungodly leaps in technology. Similar to the Medici’s Florence with all its decadence, debauchery and Savonarolas.

The American Dream tapped into the darkest of human desires, our selfish wants - fueling it with false hope.

Man is no longer the measure of all things – I am the measure of all things, and the more things I have, the more my measure is worth.

This PRopaganda carried and transmitted by the entrenched media has eroded any vestige of the collective good. The nasty legacy of this now fading empire will be Self-entitlement.

We’ve constructed the “Century of Self”, through which all are individually connected - giving rise to the new Global Empire of selfies.

I apologies for stating the obvious – but we all know that behind the obvious, we are all to blame.
